NOTE: Here are described a number of methods/exercises that could be considered "egolytic" (egolytic=loosening the ego). Needless to say that the results of all methods described here are mostly (if not exclusively) noticeable when used in combination to other egolytic exercises.
Video/Audio Synergies
http://members.cox.net/stegokitty/dsotr_pages/printable.htm
A synergy is the phenomenon when two things combine to give a response
that is greater than the normal sum of the two things. It can be said to fulfil a "1+1=3" equation.
You can see it happening by (in addition to other ways) watching a video while listening to a different
audio that was not meant to play together with it. If one is acceptive (i.e. doesn't try this expecting
much but just does it and lets hirself experience it) then this gives a new feeling to the experience of
the two forms of media. Some people call it "trippy" (the explanation of which is unclear but some people
say it means that it causes mind level shifts). At some moments, one can also notice what are called as
"synchronicities" (which can be defined as the overwhelming occurence of coincidences). An example of this
experience arose during the 60s and became the most popular example of video/audio media working synergistically.
This was the playing of "The Wizard of OZ" movie along with the "Dark Side of the Moon" Pink Floyd album
(the combination being called "The Dark Side of the Rainbow" or "The Dark Side of OZ". According to most sources
the synergy of the two works best when the album is played at the moment where MGM's lion roars for the
third time in the film. Then there is
a number of
synchronicities (or coincidences, according to your own opinion) taking place. Members of the Pink Floyd
denied to have recorded their album deliberately to match the film, which makes it more interesting to some
people. [As an intersting note, another case of alleged synchronicity involving The Wizard of Oz: For dressing
up "Professor Marvel" in the film, a second-hand costume was bought, which was later revealed to have been
previously owned by the author of The Wizard of Oz book (on which the film was based), L. Frank Baum]. In any
case, the phenomenon of video/audio synergy can take place with many, if not all (depending on how "sensitive"
one is to these things) possible combinations of videos/audios. Examples of combinations famously *reported*
to work synergistically are:+++++++++++++++
Of course the most accurate way to do this, taking into account the way synchronicity is supposed to work
(if one believes in it a bit) would be to randomly chose a video and randomly chose an audio to combine and
see the results. Of course, don't expect to see a witch jumping out from your TV/computer screen (except from
very rare cases :-P) or something similar. And don't try to be smart by rushing to say that "it all fits, it's
genius" or that "nothing fits, it's stupid". Just relax and enjoy the video/audio combination as different
form of entertainment that costs no extra money than what you already pay for the video and audio separately.
Use Light to change dimension
Watching it on video is not as effective but you can get an idea with this video. Just relax and keep staring
at the center of the circles. After a few minutes (the longer the more effective) look elsewhere and you;ll see
the effects. Watch in full screen for better effect (you can also enhance the effects by watching in darkness,
combining with music, etc).
Download for Windows:
You'll probably first need to download SDL.dll (if you don't know if you already have this,
then you probably don't). After downloading, extract the files.
Move your SDL.dll file in your "..." folder. Then you can double-click the .exe file which is the software
and it should start.
The instructions for the software are:
Hit space to change colour.
Hit enter to toggle between closing and opening circles.
Hit right mouse click to make rings thicker.
Hit left mouse click to make rings thinner.
Move mouse arrow horizontally to change the speed.
Move mouse arrow vertically to change size of inner circle.
Pretty easy.
Use Sound to change dimension
Methods that can be used to change one's brainwave frequency are called "brainwave entrainments". There are
methods that work by visual stimulation (like the Brion Gysin's dreamachine) and ones that work by aural
stimulation. There are different kinds of aural entrainment methods. One of them uses binaural
beats. A binaural beat is a set of sounds at slightly different frequences that when heard together they
generate a "beat frequency" that equals the difference of the sound of the two frequences heard. With time, the
brain's frequency tends to "follow" the "beat frequency" until it is equal with it. The method is more effective
when headphones are used, where one of the two sound frequences is heard from one ear and the other is heard from
the other ear.
The point is that certain brainwave frequences are known to correspond to certain mental conditions. For example,
during deep sleep, our brainwaves are below a frequency of 4Hz, a region of frequency classified in this context
as "delta". Here is a simple table of the main frequencies:
Beta: > 13 Hz (alertness, awakeness)
Alpha: 8 - 13 Hz (lucidness, calmness)
Theta: 4-8 Hz (deep relaxation, meditation)
Delta: < 4 Hz (deep sleep)
Therefore one can chose what mental state they want to reach, and incduce the appropriate brainwave frequency
using a binaural beats entrainment method. Such entrainment methods come in the convenient form of computer
software. Such software are used experimentally by neuroscientists but are also used in therapies (for example
for helping one to relax). Some of these software are free but others are not. A free binaural beats software
we recommend is Gnaural. It works for
Linux, MacOSX, and Windows. For better effects use headphones, relax and listen to the sound as long as possible.
This program allows you to create your own binaural beats.
Other good binaural beats software that are not for free, but have a free 30 day trial
are Brain Wave Generator and
Neuroprogrammer 2
(the latter also has some visual entrainment).
Other frequencies that allegedly correspond to more specific mental conditions and you might want to check
out are:
-Frequency 528 Hz, which according to Dr Horowitz is the "frequency of love" and the frequency at which DNA
repair takes place.
Listen to 528 Hz binaural beats.
-Frequency 10 Hz, which allegedly helps in the production of serotonin (a neurotransmitter greatly involved in
changing our mood to what we call happiness). Listen to
10 Hz binaural beats.
Interesting Free Software
(see also the two sections above for more free software)
ChaosPro: This is a fractal generator that is easy to
use (even if you have no clue about fractals) and creates great and professionally-looking images.
Unfortunately it was only made to run on Windows but reportedly you can also run it on Linux via WINE.
Go speak with artificial intelligences
Artificial intelligences are available online in the
form of "chat bots" where anyone can go and chat with them. These are created by some of the most "expert"
in matters of artifial intelligence but this doesn't mean that there will not be moments of frustration for the human that chats with them when the chat bots seem really dumb. If you'd like to have a go at creating a more intelligent artifical intelligence, you could start by going to Pandorabots and creating an account. Some chat bots that are already available online are described below:
Rober Anton Wilson's exercise to activate the Oral Bio-survival Circuit.
Lie on your back and pant rapidly to the count of 20. (Each exhale-inhale cycle counts as one, not as two.)
Panting means breathing rapidly through your mouth, as forbidden by almost all experts on health, but this
is only an exercise, not a full-time practice. When you reach 20, stop and resume nose-breathing, in the
slow, rhythmic manner recommended by yogis, to the count of 20. Then repeat the panting to the count of 20.
Then repeat proper yoga breathing. This is known as the "breath of fire" in Tantric yoga. The results
are most amusing and enlightening. Try it!
